The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will unveil a revitalized Mountain Lion Stadium in 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22) ribbon cutting ceremonies
UCCS officials and representatives from Colorado Springs Christian School will conduct formal ceremonies. They will be followed by an open-air meal and a 7 p.m. soccer game between current UCCS Mountain Lions and a UCCS alumni team.
Mountain Lion Stadium, which has permanent bleachers for 1,200 fans and overflow capability for approximately 4,000 more, will be one of the premier soccer facilities in Colorado, according to Steve Kirkham, athletic director The stadium will host Mountain Lion soccer games and Colorado Springs Christian School’s football and soccer games. A new Grass-Tex synthetic surface will improve safety, reduce maintenance costs and allow high-volume use. Grass-Tex is used at more than 4,000 university athletic fields nationwide. There are also two new scoreboards, donated by Pepsi. A press box will soon be under construction.
The stadium is located at the Four Diamond Sports Complex, which began construction in 1979 and later opened in 1980. The complex is a first-rate outdoor recreation facility that includes four baseball/softball fields, a soccer/football field, a concession stand, and a 300 car parking lot..
