COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — A record number of first-time freshmen lead CU-Colorado Springs to its highest-ever enrollment, according to official enrollment figures released this week.<\/p>\n
A total of 918 first-time freshmen enrolled for the fall 2003 semester, boosting total enrollment to 7,620, a 2.9 percent increase from fall 2002 when 7,407 students enrolled. Freshmen enrollment was 910 in 2002, 793 in 2001 and 425 in 1995. Since 1995, total enrollment has increased more than 22 percent, making CU-Colorado Springs one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.<\/p>\n
Steve Ekerholm, director, Enrollment Management, released the figures Sept. 15, following official enrollment census.<\/p>\n
“Given these difficult economic times and competition for top students, this increase is an impressive feat that could only have occurred with widespread cooperative efforts,” Jim Henderson, vice chancellor, Student Success, said. “I am deeply appreciative of efforts by faculty and staff to accommodate this record number of highly qualified students.”<\/p>\n
Henderson believes this year’s freshmen are the best qualified in the university’s history based upon overall academic preparation.<\/p>\n
The number of credit hours generated on campus increased from 81,868 in 2002 to 85,016 this year, a 3.8 percent increase. This fall, the average credit hour load per student is 11.16 hours. Generally, an undergraduate student is considered full-time when enrolling in 12 credit hours.<\/p>\n
CU-Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, offers 25 bachelor’s degrees, 17 master’s and two doctoral degrees. The campus enrolls more than 7,600 students annually.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
