Veterans Day 2010<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will honor military service members killed in Afghanistan and Iraq during on-campus Veteran\u2019s Day ceremonies.<\/p>\n

Beginning at 7 a.m., Nov. 11, UCCS will participate in the national Remembrance Day National Roll Call. At more than 100 colleges and universities across the nation, the names of the more than 6,200 military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan wars will be read. The remembrance ceremony will be in the Upper Lodge at UCCS with names of fallen service members read by students, faculty, staff and community members. The reading is expected to last eight hours.<\/p>\n

In addition to the remembrance ceremony, the UCCS Office of Veteran and Military Student Affairs will have a Veteran\u2019s Day Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upper Lodge. The open house is intended to engage students and to explain military benefits and university support systems available to veterans, active duty military and military family members.<\/p>\n

The Remembrance Day National Roll Call is sponsored nationally by the Veterans Knowledge Community of NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. For more information about the national roll call effort, visit http:\/\/va.eku.edu\/rollcall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are 1,756 student veterans who attend UCCS.<\/p>\n

A federal holiday, Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11 to honor military veterans. The date commemorates the signing of the armistice that ended WWI at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918.<\/p>\n

Veterans Day is not a university holiday. All offices will be open and classes will be in session.<\/p>\n

UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
