Frank, author of \u201cThe Darwin Economy: Liberty, Competition, and the Common Good,\u201d will speak at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Berger Hall on the UCCS campus. Frank, the H. Louis Johnson Professor of Economics, Graduate School of Management, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., is the keynote speaker for \u201cA Brighter Future: Improving the Standard of Living Now and for the Next Generation,\u201d<em> <\/em>a conference continuing Oct. 21-22 at UCCS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReviving job growth is the top economic concern for Americans today,\u201d Daphne Greenwood, professor, Department of Economics, and director of the UCCS Colorado Center for Policy Studies, said. \u201cBut a recovery that simply takes us back to the old ways will leave many issues of quality of life, sustainability and equity unsolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greenwood said that Frank and the many other experts presenting at the conference will address how to get on a path that improves the standard of living in the United States not only for the next few years but for the next generation.<\/p>\n<p>Frank is a regular &#8220;Economic View&#8221; columnist for the <em>New York Times.<\/em> His books, include\u201cThe Winner-Take-All Society\u201d(with Philip Cook), \u201cThe Economic Naturalist\u201d , \u201cFalling Behind: Why Inequality Hurts the Middle Class,\u201d and \u201cPrinciples of Economics\u201d (with Ben Bernanke). Other presenting economists at the conference include: \u00a0Edward N. Wolff, Ajit Zacharias, Greenwood, Richard P. F. Holt, Paul Kozlowski, Stephen Shirn, David Howell, Kijong Kim, Rania Antonopoulos, Emily Northrop, John F. Tomer, David Colander, Steve Pressman, Robert Scott, Stephen Dunn, Stacey Anderson, Robert Pollin, and Thomas M. Power.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is sponsored by the Colorado Center for Policy Studies with the support of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the UCCS Economics Club, the Department of Economics, and the Elizabeth Cushman Fund for Public Policy Research.<\/p>\n<p>Frank and other presenters will be at an open reception and book signing at 4:30 p.m. prior to the keynote address.
