\"\"<\/a>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 Three days of foreign film screenings and discussions by University of Colorado Colorado Springs faculty members and other regional experts will highlight the 2011 UCCS Intersections Film Festival beginning Oct. 14.<\/p>\n

An opening reception, scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Gallery of Contemporary Art on the UCCS campus, begins three days of foreign film screenings and discussions by UCCS and nearby university faculty members as well as leading film experts. This year\u2019s festival continues the tradition of free public screenings designed to reach a broad segment of the Front Range community to reinforce the university\u2019s commitment to institutional collaboration, community outreach and the promotion of diversity, according to Carole Woodall, assistant professor, History Department and Women\u2019s and Ethnic Studies Program, and IFF executive curator.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival explores the theme of displacement due to economic need, war, imprisonment, and occupation. The post-screening discussions include a \u201ctalk-back\u201d-style format with two or more discussants offering different perspectives. The uniqueness of this discussion in a public forum is a testament to the Intersections Film Festival\u2019s dedication to creating a dynamic context for fostering a discussion of Middle East-related global issues and their relevance at the local level.<\/p>\n

IFF 2011 is supported by grants from the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Heuberger Motors, the Colorado Springs Independent<\/em>, Elfi von Dassanowsky Foundation, Fine Arts Center, Heart of Jerusalem, Bristol Brewery, and various UCCS offices.<\/p>\n

5 p.m., Opening Reception, Gallery of Contemporary Art.<\/p>\n

6:15 p.m., Welcome by Carole Woodall, executive curator, Intersections Film Festival, and comments by Joe Wisman-Horther, integration program supervisor, Colorado Refugee Services Program.<\/p>\n

6:30 p.m., showing of \u201cAmreeka,\u201d (U.S.\/Canada, 2009) by Cherien Dabis. Raphael Sassower, professor, Philosophy Department, will be one of the post-screening discussants.<\/p>\n

1 p.m., showing of \u201cThe Color of Olives,\u201d (Israel, 2006) by Carolina Rivas. Mary Jane Sullivan, instructor, Philosophy Department, and Laurie Chin Sayres, founder,\u00a0 Labragirl Pictures, will lead a discussion following the film.<\/p>\n

3:30 p.m., refreshments<\/p>\n

4:30 p.m., showing of \u201cFor a Moment, Freedom,\u201d (Austria\/France\/Turkey, 2009) by Arash T. Riahi. Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Languages and Cultures and Visual and Performing Arts departments, and Solen Sanli, instructor, Sociology Department, Metropolitan State University will lead a discussion following the film.<\/p>\n

Oct. 16, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, 30 West Dale Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

4 p.m., showing of \u201cPomegranates and Myrrh\u201d (Palestine, 2008) by Najwa Najjar. Livia Alexander, executive director, ArteEast, will lead a discussion following the film.<\/p>\n

7:30 p.m., showing of \u201cBawke,\u201d (Norway, 2005) by Hisham Zaman.<\/p>\n

8 p.m., showing of \u201cWinterland,\u201d (Norway, 2007) by Hisham Zaman<\/p>\n
