READY TO HELP IF FIRE WORSENS <\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

COLORADO <\/p>\n

SPRINGS, COLO — The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is ready <\/p>\n

to help victims of the Hayman fire if additional evacuations are necessary.<\/font><\/p>\n

University officials <\/p>\n

today contacted representatives of relief agencies to advise of space <\/p>\n

in the university’s Housing Village available to families evacuated <\/p>\n

from homes in the path of Colorado’s largest wildfire.<\/font><\/p>\n

About 54 beds are <\/p>\n

available in the university’s apartment-style residence halls and will <\/p>\n

be made available at no charge to fire victims. The university will <\/p>\n

also offer reduced-price meals.<\/font><\/p>\n

The agencies will <\/p>\n

screen which families use the residence halls.<\/font><\/p>\n

"The University <\/p>\n

of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a community-oriented university," <\/p>\n

Chancellor Pam Shockley said. "We have many students, alumni and <\/p>\n

employees from the Teller, Douglas and northern El Paso County areas <\/p>\n

that are directly affected by this fire. We want to do what we can to <\/p>\n

help."<\/p>\n

Additionally, should it become necessary, the university is prepared <\/p>\n

to open additional spaces such as the university gymnasium to assist <\/p>\n

fire victims.<\/font><\/p>\n

Already, two CU-Colorado <\/p>\n

Springs police officers are assisting City of Woodland Park Police and <\/p>\n

Teller County Sheriff’s Officers.<\/font><\/p>\n

CU-Colorado Springs, <\/p>\n

located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the <\/p>\n

fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing <\/p>\n

universities in the nation. The university offers 25 bachelor’s degrees, <\/p>\n

17 master’s and two doctoral degrees. The campus enrolls about 7,000 <\/p>\n

students annually.<\/p>\n
