PITTSBURG, Pa. — G.I. Jobs magazine named the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools, a honor given to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools for their work with veterans.<\/p>\n
The list was compiled through exhaustive research starting last May during which G.I. Jobs<\/p>\n
polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the rankings were developed with the assistance of an advisory committee consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toledo,<\/p>\n
Duquesne University, Coastline Community College and Lincoln Technical Institute.<\/p>\n
Schools on the Military Friendly Schools list offer additional benefits to student veterans.<\/p>\n
A full story and detailed list of Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools and on a poster, both of which will be distributed to hundreds of<\/p>\n
thousands of active and former military personnel in September. A new web site, www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, will launch in September with interactive tools and search<\/p>\n
functions to assist military veterans in choosing schools that best meet their educational<\/p>\n
needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe try to understand the needs of active duty military, veterans, and extended family members and then meet those needs. The university\u2019s services range from helping someone with their application for military benefits and understanding the university\u2019s academic requirements to helping someone transition from a public service career to a career in the classroom through our Troops to Teachers Program.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9\/11 GI Bill has given<\/p>\n
veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school,\u201d said Rich McCormack, publisher, G.I. Jobs. \u201cVeterans can now enroll in any school, provided they\u2019re academically qualified. So<\/p>\n
