COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 Most presidential inauguration speeches are easily forgotten, according to a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs professor.<\/p>\n
But several factors, ranging from national crisis to ability to embrace new technologies, can elevate a president\u2019s inauguration speech to one remembered for ages.<\/p>\n
\u201cFranklin Roosevelt is remembered because the nation was at an economic crisis and because he used a new communication tool \u2013 radio \u2013 to carry his message,\u201d David Moon, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of political science, said. \u201cJFK was the first to embrace television. Now, we will have a president who was a leader in the use of the Internet. The potential is there for Barack Obama\u2019s speech to be truly memorable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moon will share his insights in a speech titled \u201cGreat Beginnings? Presidential Inaugurals and Success in Office\u201d beginning at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at Palisades at Broadmoor Park, 4547 Palisades Park View. A limited number of seats are available to the public on a first-come basis. There is no charge to attend the presentation.<\/p>\n
Moon\u2019s presentation will be the first in a series of planned lectures at Palisades, a collaborative venture between Dunn and Associates and the university.<\/p>\n
Palisades opened in September and features a primary care clinic, a wellness clinic, cognitive fitness, and social engagement programming with support from the university\u2019s Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the university\u2019s Gerontology Center.<\/p>\n
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
