A more than 35-year veteran of research and metropolitan university libraries will be dean of the Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n
Teri Switzer, Fort Collins, currently interim university librarian and director of the Auraria Library, University of Colorado Denver, was selected March 25 following a national search. Her appointment was announced by Peg Bacon, interim vice chancellor, Academic Affairs. She will begin July 21.<\/p>\n
\u201cTeri Switzer brings to UCCS a wealth of experiences in higher education settings as well as excellent business and organizational skills,\u201d Bacon said. \u201cHer leadership skills, combined with high-quality facilities and exceptional library and faculty and staff, are good news for faculty, staff, students and community members who use our library.\u201d<\/p>\n
Switzer replaces Christina Martinez who served as interim dean following the 2007 retirement of Leslie Manning who served as dean from 1986 to 2007. Martinez will return to her previous position as head of user services.<\/p>\n
Since 2007 Switzer has served as interim university librarian and director of the Auraria Library at the University of Colorado Denver. She previously served as associate dean for research, operations, and document delivery and assistant director for human resources there. She also served in numerous positions dating to 1973 in the library at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Those positions included personnel librarian, interim assistant dean for administrative services, and sciences\/technology librarian.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe academic library plays an important role in the scholarship of learning and the Kraemer Family Library has a rich history of providing for and supporting the needs of the students, faculty, and staff,\u201d Switzer said. \u201cThe university and the library consistently have hired exceptional people and I am honored to be included among all those who are here and have gone before me. The shoes I will fill are big. However, I am enthusiastic about the vast opportunities that lie ahead. Switzer holds a bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees from the University of Illinois, a master of business administration from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, and is pursuing a doctorate in higher education leadership from the University of Colorado Denver.<\/p>\n
She has published widely on topics as varied as employment practices, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, management, and the use of technology.<\/p>\n
UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
