Hybl, chairman and CEO of El Pomar Foundation, which gives more than $22 million annually to Colorado nonprofits.\u00a0\u201cThrough grant making and programs we help promote the development of young leaders and encourage public dialogue on local, national and global issues. We are proud to support this important work at UCCS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At UCCS, the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual is a freestanding center whose mission is to promote academic freedom and the exchange of ideas.<\/p>\n<p>With the grant funding, the center will hire two new positions, a professor of economics and a professor of political science. Additionally, the center has created a new scholars program, in which undergraduate students participate in a reading group to discuss selections from authors such as Karl Marx, Frederic Bastiat and Alexis de Tocqueville, as well as behavioral economics and the effects of political participation on citizens. So far, 11 UCCS students have received $1,000 scholarships each as part of the program.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Colorado Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is one of the fastest-growing universities in Colorado. The university offers 45 bachelor\u2019s, 22 master\u2019s and five doctoral degree programs. UCCS enrolls about 12,000 students on campus annually and another 3,300 in online programs.
