University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, accompanied by other top administrators and more than 30 student-athletes, will visit La Junta and Otero Junior College Wednesday as part of university outreach efforts.<\/p>\n
Shockley-Zalabak will meet with OJC President Jim Rizzuto and with students, answering questions about programs and transfer options for those interested in continuing their educations. At 3 p.m., the UCCS Mountain Lion\u2019s Women\u2019s Basketball team will play an exhibition game against the OJC Lady Rattlers. At 4:30 p.m., the UCCS Mountain Lion\u2019s Men\u2019s team will play the OJC Rattlers, again in exhibition. Both games will be at the McDivitt Center Gymnasium on the OJC campus, 1802 Colorado Ave., La Junta.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am delighted to cement the relationship with Otero Junior College with a personal visit,\u201d Shockley-Zalabak said. \u201cIt\u2019s important that Otero students see us and have the opportunity to ask questions about how they can reach their personal peak at UCCS.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to the student-athletes and coaches, Shockley-Zalabak will be accompanied by Robert Wonnett, interim vice chancellor, Student Success, Brian Burnett, vice chancellor, Administration and Finance, Steve Kirkham, director, Athletics, and Chris Beiswanger, director, Student Recruitment and Outreach. The UCCS administrators will emphasize a University Connection program designed to help students easily transfer to UCCS as well as new and high-demand programs offered by the university such as criminal justice, business, engineering, sciences, and nursing.<\/p>\n
\u201cOtero Junior College students receive an excellent education and are well-prepared for the next level,\u201d Shockley-Zalabak said. \u201cI hope to share that message with as many students as possible and for them to know that there are people at UCCS who want to help them achieve their personal goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
This fall, there are 248 community and junior college transfer students enrolled at UCCS who previously attend Lamar Community College, Otero Junior College, Pueblo Community College and Trinidad State Junior College. There were 45 students who transferred from OJC to UCCS.<\/p>\n
Prior to visiting Otero Junior College, Shockley-Zalabak will meet with Pueblo Community College President John Garvin before returning to UCCS late Thursday.<\/p>\n
UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado, and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
