The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Keller Elementary School and area youth organizations will come together in celebration of Liberty Day on April 25 at UCCS.<\/p>\n
Liberty Day is a non-partisan grassroots celebration of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Its mission is the education about and protection and continuation of American liberties. This event provides college students the opportunity to gain knowledge about the U.S. Constitution and to share this information with a team of elementary students.<\/p>\n
Volunteers from the Lions Club, Optimist Club, and UCCS students will serve as Liberty Day leaders, using specific curriculum to provide lessons on the U.S. Constitution to fifth-grade students from Keller Elementary School and other youth through area organizations. Students involved with Liberty Day will visit the UCCS campus April 25 to hand out free copies of the U.S. Constitution and quiz students, faculty, staff and visitors with factual questions from the text of the Constitution. Participants will receive free T-shirts, copies of the Constitution and a Liberty Day bag to assist them on their patriotic adventure.<\/p>\n
Liberty Day will kick off at 9 a.m. at the University Center Plaza with a welcome from Larry Small, vice mayor, City of Colorado Springs, and UCCS officials. The teams will then proceed to designated sites around the UCCS campus to speak, quiz the campus community for about an hour and then enjoy lunch in the Lodge.<\/p>\n
