WHAT: <\/strong>Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremonies for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs<\/p>\n

WHEN:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13 (College of Letters, Arts and Sciences), 2:30 p.m. (Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of Business, School of Public Affairs, College of Education, College of Engineering and Applied Science).<\/p>\n

WHERE:<\/strong> Broadmoor World Arena, 3185 Venetucci Blvd.<\/p>\n

WHY:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Commencement is an important ritual for the human spirit, signifying great accomplishment. About 1,000 of the estimated 1,400 students who earned degrees this spring will participate in formal ceremonies.<\/p>\n

HOW:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>The CU Board of Regents will confer degrees with brief comments by CU President Benson, UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak and two graduates. Chris Roth, who is earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and communication, will speak at the 10:30 a.m. ceremony. Tanweer Baig, who is earning a master’s in electrical engineering, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.<\/p>\n

Media arrangements:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Parking for media outlets interested in covering the ceremonies will be available at the rear of the Broadmoor World Arena. Please contact Tom Hutton, (719) 351-6519, for parking and building entry.<\/p>\n

Fifth sibling to earn UCCS degree Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n

COLORADO SPRINGS \u2014 Laurie Horner\u2019s commencement cap is decorated and ready for Friday\u2019s ceremony: \u201cThe final Horner has left UCCS.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she walks across the stage in Broadmoor World Arena May 13, Horner\u2019s four brothers and sisters \u2013 all University of Colorado Colorado Springs graduates \u2013\u00ad will be in the stands cheering her on. She\u2019s the youngest of the Horner kids to graduate from UCCS, ending a run that began when Brian Horner graduated in 2002.<\/p>\n
