COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – A unique partnership to benefit the lives of older Coloradoans will be demonstrated beginning at 4 p.m. April 25 on the campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n
Representatives of the university and Dunn and Associates, Inc., developers of The Palisades at Broadmoor Park senior housing development, will preview models of the new luxury senior housing project and explain innovative features that resulted from collaboration with university experts in gerontology, nursing, psychology and health sciences. \u201cThis is one of the first partnerships of its kind in the country,\u201d Pam Shockley-Zalabak, chancellor, UCCS, said. \u201cWe think this collaborative effort will become a model for other universities and communities to significantly improve the quality of life for older citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
The university\u2019s Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, along with its Gerontology Center, will provide innovative programs in wellness, cognitive and physical fitness and classes to help residents engage in the community. Through an on-site health clinic managed by the College of Nursing, residents can work with a certified nurse practitioner to receive check-ups, treatment for routine illnesses and health education.<\/p>\n
The Palisades will include 110 apartments and offer independent and assisted living facilities, including a unit for individuals with memory difficulties. Residents can choose from seven independent living and four assisted living floor plans. The community, scheduled for completion in summer 2008, is located at South Academy Boulevard and Broadmoor Bluffs Drive. The location offers residents convenient access to shopping, recreation, banking and local cultural attractions. <\/p>\n
