The director of performance improvement for the Colorado Department of Human Services will return to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs as interim vice chancellor for student success.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Wonnett, 47, will begin as interim vice chancellor April 9. He replaces Jim Henderson who will return to the faculty following a leave of absence. A national search for the position is expected to begin in fall 2007.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am pleased that Robert Wonnett has agreed to assist the university as its interim vice chancellor,&#8221; Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak said. &#8220;His knowledge of the university will be valuable as we continue to progress toward goals of improving student access and retention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wonnett began his career at CU in 1981 as a police officer at CU-Boulder. He later joined the UCCS Police Department and served as director of public safety from 1991 to 1997. From 1997 to 2003, Wonnett was director of student auxiliary services and from 2003 to 2005 he served as dean of students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is an honor for me to return to the campus and to be provided this opportunity,&#8221; Wonnett said. &#8220;I look forward to working with the staff of the Student Success Division on behalf of the university&#8217;s more than 7,500 students.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As interim vice chancellor, Wonnett will provide direction for undergraduate recruitment, housing, admissions and records, financial aid, advising and other student-related functions.<\/p>\n<p>Wonnett holds bachelor&#8217;s and master&#8217;s degrees from CU-Boulder, a master&#8217;s degree in public administration from CU-Denver, and a law degree from the University of Denver. He is currently pursuing a PhD in architecture and urban planning from CU-Denver.<\/p>\n<p>Wonnett is a Colorado Springs native and graduate of Harrison High School.<\/p>\n<p>UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation. The university offers 26 bachelor&#8217;s degrees, 17 master&#8217;s and four doctoral degrees. The campus enrolls about 7,600 students annually.
