{"id":266,"date":"2006-11-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-11-29T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=266"},"modified":"2006-11-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-11-29T07:00:00","slug":"distinguished-program-recruiting-future-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=266","title":{"rendered":"DISTINGUISHED PROGRAM RECRUITING FUTURE LEADERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chancellor&#8217;s Leadership Class at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is beginning its highly competitive application process to select a new class of leaders for the 2007 academic year. <\/p>\n<p>CLC is a selective, four-year leadership development program that aims to help students become confident in their approach to life and commitment to community. <\/p>\n<p>Students apply to the CLC program as high school seniors or current college students. College students must have at least two years remaining at UCCS to be eligible for the program. Criteria for consideration include a minimum, un-weighted cumulative GPA of 3.5 for incoming freshman and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for current college students.<\/p>\n<p>Besides academic excellence, applicants must demonstrate leadership potential and community involvement. After the written application process, a group of individuals will be invited to UCCS for interviews in the spring 2007 semester. More than 150 applicants are expected to apply for the program. <\/p>\n<p>Applicants selected as CLC scholars will receive a $3,500 scholarship in return for leadership studies coursework, performing 70 hours of community service per semester, skill building and mentoring.  The scholarship, which is renewable for up to four years, is offered as a way to allow students to focus fully on the program.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships are made possible by numerous contributors. This year, CLC will receive more than $130,000 generated by private donors including: Edmondson Foundation, El Pomar Foundation, FirstBank, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Kane Family Foundation, Ackerman Trust, Agilent Technologies, the Colorado Leadership Alliance, the Colorado Springs Business Journal, CorVirtus, Inasmuch Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, Brenda Smith of BKD, LLP, and UCCS Alumni &#038; Friends.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s class of CLC Scholars will participate in more than 4,000 hours of community service with 80 nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Chancellor&#8217;s Leadership Class, please visit www.uccs.edu\/clc.<\/p>\n<p>UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
