COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. The undergraduate engineering program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is one of the nation’s best, according to the editors of U.S. News and World Report.<\/p>\n
In the 2007 college rankings edition, “America’s Best Colleges,” to be released Aug 21, the magazine’s editors ranked undergraduate engineering programs at UCCS seventh nationally among public universities that primarily offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees.<\/p>\n
UCCS received an overall ranking of seven among top public Western universities <\/p>\n
The national ranking of the undergraduate engineering program is the university’s highest ranking ever achieved by an individual UCCS program from U.S. News and World Report.<\/p>\n
Rankings of undergraduate engineering programs by U.S. News were based on surveys of engineering deans and senior faculty members among programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The deans and faculty ranked schools on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished).<\/p>\n
The UCCS undergraduate engineering program earned a ranking of 3.2, placing the program in a tie for a 16 ranking among public and private universities and seventh among public universities, including military service academies.<\/p>\n
Other public universities cited as having best undergraduate engineering programs were the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, California Polytechnic-San Luis Obispo, the United States Air Force Academy, San Jose (Calif.) State University, California State Polytechnic University- Pomona, the United States Coast Guard Academy and UCCS.<\/p>\n
Other private universities cited were Harvey Mudd College, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Cooper Union, Bucknell University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Florida and Arizona), Milwaukee School of Engineering, Villanova University, Kettering University, Lafayette College and Swarthmore College.<\/p>\n

Earlier this summer, UCCS was named a national leader in engineering education for women, ranking seventh among U.S. public universities and the highest in the Rocky Mountain Region, for the number of women graduates.<\/p>\n
The American Society for Engineering Education ranked universities that grant 50 or more engineering degrees annually by the percentage of degrees awarded to women for 2004 and 2005. At UCCS, 29 percent of the engineering degrees awarded were to women, placing the university seventh among U.S. public universities and the highest in the Rocky Mountain Region. Nationally, 19.5 percent of the 73,000 engineering degrees granted in the U.S. in 2004 and 2005 were to women. <\/p>\n
UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
