{"id":246,"date":"2006-08-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-03T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=246"},"modified":"2006-08-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-03T07:00:00","slug":"uccs-to-offer-b-a-in-criminal-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=246","title":{"rendered":"UCCS TO OFFER B.A. IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER    The University of Colorado Board of Regents today (Aug. 3) unanimously approved a new bachelor&#8217;s degree program for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center, the regents agreed with recommendations by UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak and CU President Hank Brown to offer the first multidisciplinary liberal arts degree in criminal justice in the Colorado Springs and Pueblo areas. The degree will be offered by the Graduate School of Public Affairs which currently offers a master&#8217;s degree in criminal justice in addition to a master&#8217;s of public administration degree.<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Beatty, dean, Graduate School of Public Affairs, said she hopes to begin the new degree for either the Spring or Fall 2007 semester. Projected enrollments are 30 students the first year, growing to 220 by year five.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am appreciative of the support of the campus, and of the Board of Regents, in allowing GSPA to offer its first undergraduate program,&#8221; Beatty said. &#8220;We will work diligently to offer a high-quality program in a timely fashion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation. The university offers 25 bachelor&#8217;s degrees, 18 master&#8217;s and two doctoral degrees. The campus enrolls about 7,600 students annually.
