COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Keller Elementary School, and area youth organizations will celebrate Liberty Day at 9 a.m. on April 26 at UCCS.<\/p>\n
The event will begin at the University Center Plaza with a welcome from UCCS officials. Keller Elementary students will visit the UCCS campus and hand out free copies of the U.S. Constitution and quiz students, faculty, staff and visitors with factual questions from the text of the Constitution. <\/p>\n
The students will receive red Liberty Day T-shirts, 30 copies of the Constitution and a Liberty Day bag to assist them on their patriotic adventure. The teams will then return to the University Center Brooks Room for refreshments.<\/p>\n
Volunteers from the Lions Club, Optimist Club, and UCCS students will be Liberty Day leaders. In preparation for the event specific Liberty Day curriculum will be used to provide lessons on the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n
Liberty Day is traditionally a non-partisan grassroots celebration of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The goal of Liberty Day is the protection and continuation of American liberties. Its primary mission is education. This event will provide college students the opportunity to gain knowledge about the U.S. Constitution and to share this information with a team of elementary students.<\/p>\n
