Deana’s Fund was established in 1994 after the death of Deana Brisbois, a young woman from Topsfield Mass. who was a victim of dating violence. The organization provides theater and arts-based educational programs to schools and communities around the United States.

The play entertains and educates as it illustrates signs of abusive relationships as well as modeling healthy behaviors on how to avoid, intervene in, or leave abusive relationships. Many of the components help its viewers to understand several main points dealing with dating violence ranging from warning signs of abuse, understanding the cycle of abuse, and how to get help.

Audiences are clearly moved by the story of a young woman whose relationship begins with passion and promise and ends in tragedy. Following the performance the actor leads the audience in a post show discussion asking probing questions about educational points hidden in the play.

A recent article from the “Journal of the American Medical Association” found that one in five girls are victims of dating violence. By incorporating a program such as The Yellow Dress on college campuses, Sher Quaday, executive director of Deana’s Fund, said, “it is a great tool and has great potential to effectively reduce the incidence of teen dating violence.”

Admittance and parking are free. Parking is available on campus in Lots 3 and 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

For more information on Deana’s Fund, visit www.deanasfund.org

UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
