COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Candidates for elected state offices will visit the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Oct. 11 and Oct. 20.<\/p>\n
The events are sponsored by student-based organizations and the Office of Campus Activities. UCCS does not endorse political candidates. The visits are intended to provide students, faculty and staff information about candidates and ballot issues for the Nov. 7 election.<\/p>\n
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 on the second floor of the University Center, a Republican Election Rally is scheduled. Several candidates for elected office are expected to provide speeches with candidate and voter registration information also available. The event is sponsored by the College Republicans and the Office of Campus Activities.<\/p>\n
From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 in the University Center Gymnasium, a Democrat Election Forum is scheduled. Gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter is expected to speak at 2 p.m. and will answer audience questions. Candidate information and voter registration information will also be available. The event is sponsored by the Campus Democrats and the Office of Campus Activities.<\/p>\n
Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak encouraged students, faculty and staff to learn more about the candidates and to participate in the Nov. 7 elections.<\/p>\n
“It is my hope that everyone who can attend these sessions will do so,” Shockley-Zalabak said. “While I believe it important that we participate in our democracy, the university does not take positions on political candidates. My expectation is that during this week and throughout the remainder of the election season we will each personally uphold the values of the university by engaging in thoughtful and respectful discussion.”<\/p>\n
