COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Galleries of Contemporary Art will open an exhibit \u201c36 Views of Pikes Peak\u201d on July 11 in the downtown gallery at 121 S. Tejon Street.<\/p>\n

The exhibit opens July 11 with a 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. reception that will feature refreshments and live music. Based on famed Japanese printmaker Hokusai\u2019s \u201c36 Views of Mt. Fuji,\u201d the exhibit aims to explore the myriad ways that the iconic Pikes Peak Mountain draws the region together and defines us.<\/p>\n

\u201c36 Views of Pikes Peak\u201d includes ten artists located in the Pikes Peak region, Cole T. Bennett, Sean Cayton, Corie Cole, Carol S. Dass, Marina Eckler, Jean Gumpper, Lindsay Hand, Heather Oelklaus, Holly Parker Dearborn\u00a0and Bogdan Swider. Their works include printmaking, photography, mixed-media sculpture, video, painting, drawing and ceramic installation that use Pikes Peak as a starting point for a conceptual conversation about life in the region.<\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the public. \u00a0Eros and the Eschaton will play from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the outdoor GOCA\/Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region stage.<\/p>\n

The exhibit is a collaborative project between the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art, KRCC, and the Pikes Peak Library District and will be on display through Sept. 14. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, or by appointment. All events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

A concurrent and connected juried exhibit of postcard-size art will be on display at the Pikes Peak Library District\u2019s new \u201821c\u2019 space from July \u2013 September, 2014.<\/p>\n

GOCA is a regional hub of contemporary art, culture, and conversation. By featuring world-class artists, hosting artist and expert talks, and offering meaningful events the galleries engage UCCS students, faculty, staff and Pikes Peak Region community members in contemporary culture and life.<\/p>\n
