The students have designated Care and Share, Drive Smart Colorado Springs, the Children’s Literacy Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Pikes Peak Region as the non-profit organizations that will receive a portion of the proceeds.

Each team was given a budget of $100 and only three months to plan, promote and stage the event. Much like TV’s “The Apprentice,” the team that raises the most money will receive an award. Fortunately, no one will hear the phrase, “You’re fired,” at the end of the semester.

The events the students planned are:

Cool Hipster Teen Night: 7-11 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Downtown YMCA, 207 S. Nevada Ave. Benefiting the Children’s Literacy Center, people ages 14-18 who attend will be entered into a drawing to win an Ipod. Popular DJs Jojo, Nawete and Angel will entertain. Anyone who brings a new or gently used book to donate to The Children’s Literacy Center will receive additional raffle tickets.

A Night in the Sun: 7-11:45 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the UCCS Gymnasium, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway. Come enjoy a tropically-themed evening of dance and fun that will benefit Drive Smart Colorado Springs. $5 at the door includes refreshments.

Hunger Strike: 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 22. Teams will compete at the Harmony Lanes for prizes and fun as they help raise money that will benefit Care & Share. A canned food drive will be held during the sign-up times on April 5 and 7. Sign up will continue through April 15, email lyndseylou0725@yahoo.com. $10 per bowler includes shoe rentals.

Make a Bear to Show You Care: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, April 23, The Bear Factory, Chapel Hills Mall. Students arranged to have 25 percent of sales on April 23 donated to the UCCS Communication Department and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Fun events and giveaways are planned throughout the day.

UCCS, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
