{"id":145,"date":"2004-09-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-17T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=145"},"modified":"2004-09-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-17T07:00:00","slug":"cu-colorado-springs-enrollment-is-largest-ever-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=145","title":{"rendered":"CU-COLORADO SPRINGS ENROLLMENT IS LARGEST EVER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. &#8212; A record number of first-time freshmen lead CU-Colorado Springs to its highest-ever enrollment, according to official enrollment figures released this week.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 964 first-time freshmen enrolled for the fall 2004 semester, boosting total enrollment to 7,629, a new record.<\/p>\n<p>The number of first-time freshmen students at the university has steadily increased over the past decade. The 964 freshmen who enrolled for Fall 2004 represent a 5 percent increase from the 918 freshmen who enrolled last year. In 1995, 425 freshmen enrolled at the university. The freshman enrollment increase between 1995 and 2004 is 127 percent. During the same time period, overall enrollment increased 29 percent, giving CU-Colorado Springs the fastest growth rate of Colorado universities and one of the fastest growth rates in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Jim Henderson, vice chancellor, Student Success, released the enrollment figures Sept. 16, following official enrollment census.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;CU-Colorado Springs is the choice of many students who seek a high-quality education in a safe environment and with close interaction with exceptional faculty members,&#8221; Henderson said. &#8220;These numbers reflect the high regard that students have for this university.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Henderson believes this year&#8217;s freshmen are the best qualified in the university&#8217;s history based upon overall academic preparation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As has been the case in the past few years, we expect UCCS to lead all four-year institutions in the percentage of incoming freshmen meeting the admissions standards set by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education,&#8221; Henderson said.<\/p>\n<p>The number of credit hours generated on campus increased from 85,016 in 2003 to 86,073 this year, a 1.2 percent increase. This fall, the average credit hour load per student increased to 11.28 hours. Generally, an undergraduate student is considered full-time when enrolling in 12 credit hours.<\/p>\n<p>CU-Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation. The university offers 25 bachelor&#8217;s degrees, 17 master&#8217;s and two doctoral degrees.
