{"id":142,"date":"2004-09-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-08T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=142"},"modified":"2004-09-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-08T07:00:00","slug":"conference-to-explore-link-between-education-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pressreleases.uccs.edu\/?p=142","title":{"rendered":"CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE LINK BETWEEN EDUCATION, ECONOMY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO   The role of higher education in statewide econcomic development and public policy formation will be explored by by private- and public-sector experts at the 2004 Colorado&#8217;s Future Conference Oct. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Colorado State University will co-host the third-annual Colorado&#8217;s Future conference Oct. 15 at University Park Holiday Inn, Fort Collins. The event is designed for academics, business professionals, economic-development specialists, elected officials and others interested in partnerships and strategies that successfully stimulate the state and local economies.<\/p>\n<p>Conference speakers and six panel sessions will focus on the multifaceted role that Colorado&#8217;s research universities play in boosting the state economy and informing public policy.<\/p>\n<p>Larry Penley, CSU president, and Rick O&#8217;Donnell, executive director of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, will begin the event with talks illuminating the theme, &#8220;The Twenty-First Century University and Economic Development.&#8221; Morning conference sessions will focus on community economic analysis and the interplay of public mood, the economy and public policy.<\/p>\n<p>Luncheon speakers include Milan Rewerts, director, CSU Cooperative Extension, and Frank Bruno, Boulder city manager, talking about &#8220;University Research and Policy Making.&#8221; Their talks will introduce afternoon panel sessions focused on transferring university research discoveries to enhance economic development and enlighten policy discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Panel sessions will feature several prominent speakers including Rep. Lola Spradley, R-Beulah. She will provide examples of partnerships that have drawn on research-based knowledge to spur the economy and state policy.
