A professor of Spanish at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs recently received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant in Education to teach at the University of Antioquia.<\/p>\n<p>John Miller, professor, Languages and Cultures, will teach translation studies at the Universidad de Antioquia in Medllin, Columbia, this fall. Additionally, Miller will spend July in Columbia assisting teachers of English as a second language at workshops in Manizales, Bucaramanga, Cali and Bogota.<\/p>\n<p>Miller is a 17-year veteran of CU-Colorado Springs and has chaired the Department of Languages and Cultures. He teaches Spanish and is active in many bilingual and cross-curricular activities on campus and in the community. He earned a doctoral degree from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt.  <\/p>\n<p>In 2003, Miller had a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award to San Andres, Columbia, to study methodologies of second language acquisition. Previously, Miller received Fulbright awards to study in Colombia, Venezuela and Spain.<\/p>\n<p> The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program offers two- to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions in 140 countries.<\/p>\n<p>Created to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program started in 1946, the Senior Specialists Program aims to increase the number of faculty and professionals who have the opportunity to go abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State&#8217;s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and managed by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.
