COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — A more than 25-year veteran of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is the 2003-2004 recipient of the Bank One Faculty Community Service Award.<\/p>\n
Jeffrey Ferguson, professor, Business, recently received the award given annually to an outstanding faculty member in the four-campus University of Colorado System. The award provides $10,000 in recognition of exceptional educational, humanitarian, civic or other service in his or her community by a university faculty member.<\/p>\n
“The Bank One Faculty Community Service Award was designed to honor contributions like those made by Professor Jeffrey Ferguson. His community service and commitment to education is a stellar example of the type of service we value and wish to recognize,” said Wayne Hutchens, president, Bank One Colorado Market.<\/p>\n
At the university, Ferguson teaches service management, marketing research and services marketing and served as associate dean. His research interests include marketing of non-profit organizations, service quality measurement and the role of spirituality in the workplace. He joined the CU-Colorado Springs faculty as an assistant professor in 1979 and was named the College of Business Outstanding Teacher in 2001. He received the Outstanding Faculty Member Award in 1986 and 1992 and the Outstanding Service Award in 1994. He earned a PhD. in marketing from Arizona State University.<\/p>\n
A resident of Monument, Ferguson served more than 16 years as a member of the Lewis-Palmer School District #38 Board of Education. He was president for 10 years and led four community bond elections, a mill levy override and other revenue changes that allowed the district to keep pace with record-setting enrollment increases. He was named to the Colorado Association of School Boards’ All-State School Board in recognition of his service. Ferguson also served as a consultant to the Colorado Springs Symphony, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, Pikes Peak YMCA and Junior League.<\/p>\n
Ferguson and his wife, Debbie, have three children, Michael, Emily, and Erik.<\/p>\n

Ferguson is the ninth CU-Colorado Springs faculty member to earn recognition since the award’s creation in 1992. Previous winners include John Miller, professor, Languages and Culture; Barbara Swaby, professor, Education; Douglas McKay, professor emeritus, Languages and Culture; Lynda Dickson, associate professor, Sociology; Ruben Martinez, former professor of Sociology; Mary Ann Cutter, associate professor, Philosophy; Joanne Ruth, senior clinical instructor, Nursing; and Sara Qualls, professor, Psychology.<\/p>\n
CU-Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
