COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A leader of Patagonia will share lessons about creating successful, responsible businesses during a Feb. 18 speech at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n

The event is sponsored by the UCCS College of Business\u2019 Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative and the UCCS Office of Sustainability.<\/p>\n

Vincent Stanley, Patagonia\u2019s vice president of marketing and co-author of \u201cThe Responsible Company\u201d will speak at 5 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the University Center Theater. Stanley will talk about environmentally responsible business practices as well as Patagonia\u2019s mission statement to \u201cbuild the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

He will describe steps businesses large and small can take to thrive in uncertain times while reducing social and environmental damage. His speech will include strategies to improve the quality of a business, ways to reduce harm, and how companies can provide meaningful work to employees. A question-and-answer period with the audience is planned.<\/p>\n

Stanley, nephew of Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, has worked for the company since its inception in 1973. In 2012, Stanley and Chouinard wrote \u201cThe Responsible Company: What We\u2019ve Learned from Patagonia\u2019s First 40 Years\u201d to describe the steps and missteps the company took to become more responsible.<\/p>\n

For the past eight years he has focused on the intersection of the company\u2019s brand, sport, and environmental stories. He has helped initiate and produce the Footprint Chronicles, the company\u2019s interactive website that outlines the social and environmental impact of its products; the Common Threads Partnership; and Patagonia Books.<\/p>\n

The UCCS College of Business was established in 1965 and today has more than 1,300 undergraduates and 400 MBA and distance MBA students. The College of Business and Administration awards the Bachelor of Science in Business and Bachelor of Innovation degrees. The Graduate School of Business Administration awards the Master of Business Administration degree. More than 8,000 alumni of the College of Business live and work around the world.<\/p>\n
