A discussion with Jeff Scholes, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy, will be followed by an audience-led question-and-answer session.<\/p>\n<p>The event is sponsored by the UCCS Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life. UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will provide a welcome and introduce Daly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see this event as a step in the direction of a new kind of dialogue between UCCS and Focus on the Family ,\u201d Scholes said. \u201cThere are some interesting insights in Daly\u2019s new book that may surprise some members of our university community and the Colorado Springs community at-large. Most importantly, I commend his willingness to venture into a public university setting and answer questions about religion and politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Faculty, staff, and members of the greater Colorado Springs community are invited to attend at no charge. Food and drink will be provided before and after the event. Free parking will be available in Parking Lots 1 and 3. Seating in the Centennial Hall Auditorium is limited to 290 people.<\/p>\n<p>Daly is the author of \u201cReFocus: Living a Life that Reflects God\u2019s Heart.\u201d There will be copies of his book at the event.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the Speaker<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Daly, 51, became president of Focus on the Family in 2005, succeeding James Dobson. As president, he is host of the Focus on the Family radio program which reaches an estimated 220 million listeners. A 24 year veteran of the organization, he previously held vice president and assistant to the president positions for the organization. He left an executive-level job in private industry to join Focus on the Family.<\/p>\n<p>While supporting traditional evangelical Christian views regarding the definition of marriage and opposing the legalization of abortion, Daly has been encouraging civil discourse and demonstrating a willingness to meet with those whose viewpoints differ. .<\/p>\n<p>He also shares his personal story of being raised by an alcoholic father in Southern California, his conversion at age 15, and being on his own by the time he graduated from high school. Daly went on to earn a bachelor\u2019s degree in business at California State University, San Bernadino, and a master\u2019s degree in business from Regis University.<\/p>\n<p>He received the 2008 World Children\u2019s Center Humanitarian Award, the 2009 Children\u2019s Hunger Fund Children\u2019s Champion Award and the 2010 HomeWord Family Ministry Award.
