WHAT: UCCS will host 40 students, ages 14-18, July 12-15 for the Jumpstart STEM Camp: CSI-Chocolate Science Investigation, the Case of the Recipe Rip-off. The students will use forensics, thin-film chromatography, spectroscopy, robotics and cyber sleuthing to solve a fictional crime of the disappearance of a prized chocolate recipe.
WHY: The Jumpstart STEM summer program uses scenario-based experiences to engage students in using various science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. The goal of the program is to increase the pipeline of scientists and engineers.
WHO: The UCCS Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education, in cooperation with the Center for Homeland Security, the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biology developed the program.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 12-18. Preferred times to observe the events are between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. or 2 p.m.to 4 p.m.
