DENVER – The University of Colorado has released the inaugural edition of CU Connections, a series of three presentations on the history and geography of Colorado. Entitled “The People, Land, and Legends of Colorado and the West,” CU Connections features three acclaimed professors from each of the university’s campuses to share insight into the aspects of history that helped shape Colorado and the West.
With an introduction by University of Colorado President Hank Brown, CU Connections offers insight into the history of Colorado and the region from some of the nation’s best academic minds.
Beginning the lectures is Dr. Thomas J. Noel, known as “Dr. Colorado” from his popular newspaper, radio and television work. Professor Noel tells the story of Colorado from its earliest American Indian inhabitants through the Gold Rush. Noel sprinkles his narrative with tantalizing legends and tall tales and is accompanied by Paul Malkoski, the “singing historian.”
The second disc of the series is presented by Dr. Thomas P. Huber, a President’s Teaching Scholar and professor at the Colorado Springs campus for more than 25 years. Huber describes the physical canvas of Colorado, its topography, climate and landscape.
The third disc features Dr. Patty Limerick’s reflections on the complex and turbulent history of the West and its relationship to many of the trends affecting Colorado today. Limerick is a MacArthur Fellowship Award (“Genius Grant”) recipient who has also received the Hazel Barnes Prize, the highest award for teaching and research on the Boulder campus.
