UCCS RECYCLING PROGRAM

As of now, UCCS will recycle these items:

• MIXED PAPER – “Let it Rip” program – Almost everything that

rips is eligible in one bin. All types of paper including office

paper, shredded paper, newspapers, mail and more.

• MIXED CONTAINERS – All aluminum, steel and tin

Containers, glass bottles, aerosol cans, and plastic

bottles (Numbers 1 and 2 only) in one bin.

• CARDBOARD – We hope to add more pickup locations in the

near future. Please break down all boxes and let Keith

Woodring know locations we need to add containers.

Program Details

. All offices will receive a small blue, deskside recycling can that will match the size of your

current trash can. These will be for mixed paper only. Trash cans are for non-recyclable

materials only. For now, office occupants will be responsible for taking paper recycling (in

deskside recycling cans) as well as any mixed containers, to the closest recycling bins (blue 50gallon roll carts), usually at the end of the hall. At this time, please do not ask custodial staff to

handle your recyclables.

. Large Blue Recycling bins (50 gallon roll carts) for both paper and mixed containers will be

added where necessary in buildings. These need to be visible and convenient for users and will

often need to be located in hallways. Stairwells are not an appropriate location for these

containers. Please work with the Grounds Department and the Office of Sustainability to find

suitable locations in your buildings. We will work to ensure that these containers are clean with

attractive signage to provide a professional appearance. In some cases, a built-in recycling

station may be appropriate and requested. Please contact Keith Woodring with these requests.

. This program is still under development and it may take up to a month to get all of the

necessary bins in place. Please be patient and know that we are working as fast as possible to

make this program successful.

. The recycling program will be a partnership between the Grounds Department and the Office

of Sustainability, with cooperation from the Custodial Staff, and most importantly all of the

UCCS community. Your suggestions for improvements are most welcome. Contact Keith

Woodring 492-4608, or Linda Kogan [email protected].

With your help, we will have a successful recycling program.

Please assist in getting recyclable items to their proper receptacles and encourage

students to do the same.
