Media Advisory: UCCS spring commencement ceremonies set for Friday

WHAT: Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremonies for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs

WHEN:   10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13 (College of Letters, Arts and Sciences), 2:30 p.m. (Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of Business, School of Public Affairs, College of Education, College of Engineering and Applied Science).

WHERE: Broadmoor World Arena, 3185 Venetucci Blvd.

WHY:    Commencement is an important ritual for the human spirit, signifying great accomplishment. About 1,000 of the estimated 1,400 students who earned degrees this spring will participate in formal ceremonies.

HOW:   The CU Board of Regents will confer degrees with brief comments by CU President Benson, UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak and two graduates. Chris Roth, who is earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and communication, will speak at the 10:30 a.m. ceremony. Tanweer Baig, who is earning a master’s in electrical engineering, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.

Fifth sibling to earn UCCS degree Friday

COLORADO SPRINGS — Laurie Horner’s commencement cap is decorated and ready for Friday’s ceremony: “The final Horner has left UCCS.”

As she walks across the stage in Broadmoor World Arena May 13, Horner’s four brothers and sisters – all University of Colorado Colorado Springs graduates –­ will be in the stands cheering her on. She’s the youngest of the Horner kids to graduate from UCCS, ending a run that began when Brian Horner graduated in 2002.

Local developer to be honored with University Medal at UCCS commencement

COLORADO SPRINGS — A leader in the redevelopment of property near the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, as well as several other retail centers, will be honored at the 42nd UCCS spring commencement ceremony May 13.
