COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. C. Suzanne “Sue” Mencer, a leading expert in homeland security, including U.S. law enforcement and anti-terrorism activities, will join the board of advisers for the National Institute of Science, Space and Security Centers at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Mencer, a policy director in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s government relations group in Denver, will join the board at its upcoming meeting on March 16. She was invited to join the board by UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak.
“Sue understands the needs of law enforcement and homeland security from the perspective of both the front-line defenders and national policy,” Shockley-Zalabak said. “UCCS is privileged to have her expertise available as we build curriculum and conduct research to aid our region, state and nation.”
Mencer previously directed the Office of Domestic Preparedness within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Prior to that she was the executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety where she provided oversight for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Colorado State Patrol, the Division of Criminal Justice and the Division of Fire Safety. She also served as an FBI special agent and supervisory agent for more than 20 years.
Mencer is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and Ohio State University.
