A University of Colorado at Colorado Springs conference for women will feature the chief executive officer of Smart Girl Inc., a national leader in helping young women achieve, as its keynote speaker.
Nicky Marone, Boulder, will deliver “Tickled Pink:Women, Health and Humor” as part of an 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 11 Woman-to-Woman Dialogue Series at the Lodge on the UCCS campus.
UCCS is home to a Smart Girl Inc. chapter that strives to build confidence and self-esteem in middle school girls. In addition to Marone’s remarks, three breakout sessions are planned. The sessions include “Re-imagining Our Aging Selves,” “Update on Sexuality: From Politics to Personal Identity,” and “How to Get Moving and Keep Moving: Discovering Your Body’s Wisdom.” UCCS faculty members will serve as speakers and facilitators for the breakout sessions.
As CEO of Smart Girl Inc., Marone directs a prevention and enrichment program for middle school girls that uses positive peer influence to inspire them to become confident, capable and self-reliant women.
Marone is an international lecturer, author, workshop leader, and authority on personal achievement and women’s issues. A former junior high school English teacher, she is the author of four books, including “How to Father a Successful Daughter,” and a national authority on women’s achievement.
The event is sponsored by the Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion and the Women’s Studies Program at UCCS and the Colorado Springs Chapter of the American Association of University Women.
