WHO: Officials from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, members of the University of Colorado Board of Regents, architects and contractors will break ground on a $12 million student recreation center on the UCCS campus.
WHAT: The student recreation center, the first on the UCCS campus, will incorporate a swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness center, and space for aerobics and other activities. The center will be constructed without use of state general fund or campus tuition monies. Last year, UCCS students voted to pay additional student fees to allow the center’s construction.
UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, CU Regent Jerry Rutledge, UCCS student leaders and other university officials will ceremonially begin construction of the building. An architect’s rendering of the completed building appears below.
WHEN/WHERE: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Parking Lot 8 on the UCCS campus, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway. Parking Lot 8 is located between the Alpine and Summit village student housing complexes. A campus map is available at http://www.uccs.edu/map.html
WHY: UCCS students voted increased fees to provide additional on-campus recreational opportunities for current and future students at Colorado’s fastest growing public university.
