COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. Students searching for a scholarship to help fund pursuit of higher education are only a few mouse clicks away from hundreds or thousands of dollars, thanks to a new program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
The Office of Student Financial Aid and Student Employment at CU-Colorado Springs recently completed an interactive website that allows students to enter a personal profile and search from more than 80 available scholarships at the university.
“Our desire was to be more customer-oriented,” Jennifer Taylor, scholarship coordinator, Office of Student Financial Aid and Employment, said. “As a scholarship office, our desire is to see every scholarship dollar allocated and to help as many people as possible achieve their dream of attending college. The web site is another route for people to find out what is available.”
Students have the option of building an online profile by providing data such as age, scores on college placement exams, grade point average and desired field of study. CU-Colorado Springs has scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate study on either full- or part-time basis. From the web site, students can apply directly for scholarships and also complete federal financial aid applications that are often required for grants and loans. The deadline for most scholarship applications is March 1.
The web site is http://www.uccs.edu/~finaidse/scholarship/ and does not require students to provide secure information to apply. Information provided by students is not shared off-campus, Taylor said.
Students who prefer personal contact can meet directly with Taylor by appointment, or other campus Financial Aid advisors without obligation or fee by calling 262-3460. The department’s office hours are 9 a.m. -7 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
At CU-Colorado Springs, 54 percent of students receive some sort of financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships or loans from private sources, federal or state programs.
CU-Colorado Springs, located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs, is the fastest growing university in Colorado and one of the fastest growing universities in the nation. The university offers 25 bachelor’s degrees, 17 master’s and two doctoral degrees. The campus enrolls more than 7,600 students annually.
