Black Forest fire update – UCCS Rec Center to become evacuation shelter

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will be a Red Cross evacuation center for individuals and families evacuated as part of the Black Forest Fire.

The Campus Recreation Center will become a Red Cross evacuation center effective at about 3 p.m. June 13. The Red Cross will handle registration procedures at the site. For a map of UCCS, visit Evacuees should park in Lot 8 or 9, the Recreation Center parking lot.

The Red Cross shelter does not permit pets. If evacuated to UCCS please contact All Breed Rescue at 719-264-6460 to set up shelter for small animals.

The Recreation Center is closed to UCCS faculty, staff, students and visitors until further notice. All scheduled activities in the Recreation Center are cancelled.

All other activities and classes at UCCS will continue as scheduled, including New Student Orientation scheduled for Friday.

Faculty and staff who can accommodate evacuees are also encouraged to contact Emergency Management. The office will also coordinate volunteers who are interested in helping.
